Rahul Dravid, known for his gentlemanly demeanour, has once again demonstrated his admirable character by deciding to forgo half of his Rs 5 crore prize money from the BCCI’s pool of Rs 125 crore, awarded to the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team.

Following India’s victory against South Africa in the final, the BCCI announced the cash reward for the team, coaching staff, and support staff. Dravid’s share was initially set at Rs 5 crore, while other coaches were to receive Rs 2.5 crore each.

According to a Hindustan Times report, Dravid requested the board to reduce his reward to Rs 2.5 crore, matching the amount given to the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches.

A BCCI source stated, “Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments.”

This gesture is reminiscent of Dravid’s stance in 2018 when he was the head coach of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team. At that time, he insisted on equal distribution of prize money, resulting in a revised award structure where each member of the support staff received Rs 25 lakh, including Dravid.

Dravid’s consistent display of selflessness and team-first attitude, both as a player and a coach, continues to earn him respect and admiration. His actions underscore his commitment to fairness and equality, further solidifying his reputation as a true sportsman.

On Tuesday, thetheorist.in had reported that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly considering Rahul Dravid to fill the void Gautam Gambhir left as their mentor.

Gautam Gambhir was initially brought on as KKR’s mentor for the 2024 season, a decision supported by co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, who had a long-term vision for him within the franchise. However, the opportunity to coach the national team proved too compelling for Gambhir to resist.

Gambhir’s departure is a significant loss for KKR, as his guidance was crucial in the franchise’s successful campaign, culminating in their IPL 2024 title win. To address this gap, KKR’s management has identified Rahul Dravid as their top choice for the mentoring role.
