Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, focusing on the ongoing situation in Manipur. During the meeting, he directed officials to ensure the free movement of people on all roads in Manipur starting March 8 and ordered strict action against those attempting to create obstructions.
“Free movement must be ensured for people on all roads in Manipur from March 8, and strict action must be taken against anyone attempting to create obstructions. The Union government remains fully committed to restoring lasting peace in Manipur and providing all necessary assistance in this regard,” Amit Shah stated during the meeting.
Focus on Border Security and Law Enforcement
To strengthen security along Manipur’s international border, Shah emphasized the need to accelerate fencing work on both sides of the designated entry points.
“Strict action should continue in all cases of extortion. Fencing work on both sides of the designated entry points along Manipur’s international border should be completed at the earliest,” the Home Minister said.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of dismantling the entire network involved in the drug trade to achieve a drug-free Manipur.
Review of Security and Surrender of Illegal Arms
Amit Shah’s meeting primarily focused on restoring normalcy in Manipur, which has witnessed prolonged unrest. The Home Minister also reviewed efforts to recover illegal and looted arms held by various groups in the state.

The security review meeting was held at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi. Senior officials, including Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, top army officers, paramilitary force officials, and representatives from the Manipur government, were present at the meeting.
First Security Review After President’s Rule
This marks the first high-level security review chaired by Amit Shah since President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13. The decision came after former Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from his post. With the state assembly under suspended animation until its tenure ends in 2027, the Union government has taken direct charge of restoring order and governance.
The Home Ministry’s directives signal a strong push towards restoring normalcy, securing Manipur’s borders, and eliminating lawlessness in the region. Further updates are expected as the government implements these measures in the coming days.
