Kapil Sharma’s newly opened café, Kap’s Café in Surrey, British Columbia, was attacked late Wednesday night, with multiple shots fired at the property. While no injuries were reported, the incident has stirred international concern after Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi, linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility.
In a post on social media, Laddi, along with Toofan Singh—both associated with the banned terror outfit BKI, said the attack was a direct response to remarks made in a past episode of The Kapil Sharma Show. The comments, aimed humorously at Nihang Sikhs, were deemed offensive by sections of the Sikh community.
Terrorist Claims Comedy Skit Mocked Sikh Identity
“A character was seen wearing the Nihang Sikh attire and some humorous remarks were made on their conduct. These were considered to be offensive and hurt the religious sentiments of the community. No religion or spiritual identity can be mocked under the guise of comedy,” Laddi wrote.

The fugitive also accused Sharma’s team of ignoring community concerns. “We made several calls to Mr Sharma’s manager but got no response. Why didn’t Kapil Sharma publicly apologise anytime soon?” he asked.
The Nihang Sikhs are a traditional martial sect in Sikhism, recognised for their blue robes, spiritual discipline, and warrior traditions.
Surrey Police and Café Respond to the Incident
Surrey Police Service confirmed the shooting:“On Thursday, July 10, at 1:50 am, officers responded to a shots fired call at a business in the 8400 block of 120 Street. The property was damaged while staff were still inside.”
In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, Kap’s Café said it was “processing the shock but not giving up.”
“We opened Kap’s Café with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking,” the message read.
“Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Café remains a place of warmth and community. Thank you for your support. See you soon under better skies,” it concluded.
As of now, Kapil Sharma has not publicly responded to the incident. Meanwhile, Harjit Singh Laddi remains on the National Investigation Agency’s most-wanted list, with BKI officially recognised as a terrorist organisation by the Canadian government.
