Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi, currently among the National Investigation Agency’s most wanted individuals, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Laddi, associated with Babbar Khalsa International, is believed to have ordered the shooting in response to a past statement made by the comedian.
Laddi is also wanted for his alleged involvement in the April 2024 killing of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar alias Vikas Bagga in Punjab’s Rupnagar district.
Following the shooting, police and forensic teams arrived at the scene, and investigations are currently underway.

This attack comes amid renewed concerns from Indian authorities over the activities of Khalistani extremists in Canada. A recent report by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) noted that such extremists continue to use Canada as a base for promoting, fundraising, and planning violence in India.
India has repeatedly raised concerns with Canada over its handling of the Khalistan issue. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar previously stated, “Our biggest problem right now is in Canada… they have given extremism and separatism a certain legitimacy in the name of free speech.”
Relations between India and Canada, which deteriorated in 2023 following allegations over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, have shown signs of improvement since Mark Carney assumed office as Canada’s Prime Minister earlier this year.
