A shocking incident unfolded at the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday as a man reportedly attempted to die by suicide by slitting his throat inside the Court Hall One in the presence of Chief Justice Nilay Vipinchandra Anjaria.
The individual, identified as Srinivas from Mysuru, handed over a file to the security staff at the entrance before unexpectedly carrying out the act.
Security personnel reacted swiftly, rushing Srinivas to Bowring Hospital for immediate medical attention. According to reports, the man is being treated at the ICU after his wind pipe got damaged due to the cut.
While the motive behind his action remains unclear, authorities are actively investigating the incident. According to a senior police officer, there was no note found at the scene.
Expressing concern over the security lapse, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Anjaria questioned how the man managed to bring a knife object into the High Court premises. He instructed authorities to thoroughly examine the matter and gather evidence from the scene.
Additionally, the Karnataka High Court emphasized that documents should only be accepted with the court’s authorization.
The contents of the file handed over by Srinivas are yet to be disclosed, with the court affirming it would not review the documents as they were not submitted by a designated advocate.
As investigations continue, police await Srinivas’s recovery to record his statement and shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
