Bihar BJP stalwart Sushil Modi has revealed that he will not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections due to his ongoing battle with cancer.
The former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar shared this news on Wednesday, stating that he has been fighting cancer for the past six months and has informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about his health condition.
In a tweet in Hindi, the 72-year-old leader expressed his decision to disclose his diagnosis, feeling it was time to inform the public. Sushil Modi also expressed his gratitude to the nation, Bihar, and the BJP for their support.
His tweet read, “I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the PM. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party”

Reacting to his announcement, BJP leader and fellow party MP Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed deep concern and wished him a speedy recovery.
Sushil Modi had served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar from July 2017 to November 2020. Following this, he was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in December 2020, filling the vacant seat left after the demise of Lok Janshakti Party supremo Ram Vilas Paswan in October 2020.
