In a remarkable medical feat, the cardiac surgery team at Kailash Hospital, Noida, led by Dr. Satish Mathew, Chief Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, successfully saved the life of Bishan Singh Bisht, a Noida resident, through a complex, multi-stage operation. The procedure, which took 15 hours to complete, addressed multiple life-threatening conditions, including an aortic aneurysm and blockages in two major coronary arteries.

During a press conference held at the hospital auditorium, Dr. Mathew outlined the details of the case. Bisht initially came to the hospital with hoarseness of voice, a symptom that prompted further investigations. The medical team discovered an orange-sized aortic aneurysm, which had developed in the main aorta, posing a critical risk of rupture.

In addition, a coronary angiogram revealed that two of Bisht’s major arteries supplying blood to the heart were severely blocked, putting him at risk of a heart attack.

Given the high risk to the patient’s life, Dr. Mathew and his team devised a comprehensive surgical plan, divided into three stages.

In a statement, the hospital said, “In the first stage of operation, Dr Satish Mathew and his team performed a routine Off pump CABG to the two blocked coronaries.”

It added, “2nd stage, CTVS Doctors constructed a new blood supply channel separately to the brain, heart and hands by using artificial tubes (graft) (‘AORTIC DEBRANCHING’).”

“3rd stage, patient was shifted to cardiac cath lab, where a folded Valiant Captiva endo graft was inserted from the right groin artery, pushed up into the main aorta in the chest and opened up such that diseased part was reinforced from inside (TEVAR), thereby blocking the opening of the bulging area and allowing blood to go directly into the lower part of the body,” the hospital said.

The entire procedure, lasting 15 hours, was a success. Bisht remained under medical observation for seven days following the operation. Upon discharge, his family expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Mathew and his team for their extraordinary efforts in giving him a new lease on life.

The surgery involved a skilled team of professionals, including Dr. Saurabh Rai, Dr. Tauseef Akhtar, cardiac anesthesiologists Dr. Reetesh Arora and Dr. Shireen Varghese, perfusionist Sandeep Kadanga, along with the cardiac nurses and technicians. Dr. Mathew, speaking at the press conference, emphasized the importance of teamwork in such complex cases, noting that the hospital had successfully completed over 5,000 heart and vascular surgeries in the past two decades.

Chairperson of Kailash Hospital, Dr. Uma Sharma, congratulated Dr. Mathew and his team for their remarkable achievement. She expressed hope that the cardiac surgery department would continue setting new standards, benefiting patients not only from Noida but across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Other notable attendees at the press event included Dr. Kartik Sharma (Managing Director), Dr. Pallavi Sharma (Director), Dr. Ritu Vohra (Group Medical Director), and Dr. Vijay Ganju (Medical Superintendent), along with other staff members from the cardiac surgery department.

This successful surgery further solidifies Kailash Hospital’s reputation as a leading center for advanced cardiac care in the region.
