Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met with the family members of martyred Constable Sunil Dhan of the Jharkhand Jaguar (STF) unit at his residential office on Kanke Road, Ranchi. During the emotional interaction, CM Soren handed over a compensation cheque of ₹1.20 crore issued under the Police Salary Package of the State Bank of India. An additional ₹1.46 crore (₹1,46,26,972) was credited directly to the martyr’s bank account by the Home Department.
CM Soren expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and assured them that the state government stands firmly with the kin of those who sacrifice their lives for public service. “Constable Sunil Dhan made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. His martyrdom is a matter of immense pride for the state. The government deeply understands the pain of a martyr’s family and will continue to support them in every possible way,” he said.
The Chief Minister held a compassionate conversation with the martyr’s 65-year-old mother Phagni Urain, wife Gandari Dhan (29), and sons Priyansh Dhan (5) and Aniket Dhan (3). He encouraged them to stay strong and assured that all government support—financial, educational, and occupational—would be extended to them.
Job Offer Under Compassionate Grounds to Martyr’s Wife
CM Soren also suggested that Gandari Dhan could consider taking up a government job under the state’s compassionate appointment provisions. She acknowledged the offer and responded that, given her children’s young age, she would evaluate the decision in the future.

He also urged the family to prioritize their children’s education and requested officials to ensure swift delivery of all entitled benefits, including pensions. Officials informed the Chief Minister that the pension process has been completed and will begin from the next month. Other entitlements are also being finalized.
Martyrdom During Anti-Naxal Operation Remembered
Constable Sunil Dhan, deputed with AG-11 of the Jharkhand Jaguar unit, attained martyrdom on April 12, 2025, during a special anti-Naxal operation in the dense forests of Ratamati village under Chhotanagra police station, West Singhbhum district. He was critically injured in an IED blast and airlifted to Ranchi for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries the same day.
The martyr’s mother informed the CM that the family resides in their ancestral home in Kanti Pohra Toli under Karra block of Khunti district and earns a living through farming.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of the Home Department Vandana Dadel, DIG of Jharkhand Jaguar Indrajit Mahatha, Senior DSP of Jharkhand Jaguar Sunil Kumar Rajwar, SBI Ranchi Zonal Deputy General Manager Manoj Kumar, and SBI Chief Manager Vikas Kumar Pandey, along with other dignitaries.
