Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Ratan Tata, a prominent industrialist and chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, at the age of 86. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Modi hailed Tata as “a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being.”
Modi emphasized Tata’s influential role in steering one of India’s oldest and most esteemed business conglomerates, noting that his contributions extended well beyond corporate confines.
“He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to making our society better,” Modi remarked.

N Chandrasekaran, the current chairman of Tata Sons, also shared his reflections on Tata’s remarkable legacy. He described the late industrialist as “a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.” Chandrasekaran highlighted Tata’s dedication to philanthropy, asserting that “his initiatives have left a deep-rooted mark that will benefit generations to come,” particularly in the fields of education and healthcare.

Ratan Tata’s death has left a significant void in the Indian business landscape. Just days before his passing, he addressed rumors regarding his health on social media, stating that he was undergoing routine medical examinations related to his age. Chandrasekaran expressed profound sorrow in his late-night statement, saying, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata.”
Chandrasekaran further praised Tata’s character, noting, “For the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was more than a chairperson. To me, he was a mentor, guide, and friend. He inspired by example. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, the Tata Group under his stewardship expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass.”
