Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dedicated several developmental projects worth over Rs 1,06,000 crores to the nation, marking a significant stride towards bolstering infrastructure and connectivity, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The ceremony, held at the Dedicated Freight Corridor’s Operation Control Centre, saw the unveiling of initiatives spanning railway infrastructure, connectivity, and petrochemicals, alongside the flagging off of 10 new Vande Bharat trains.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the historic magnitude of the event, recognizing the extensive participation from over 200 locations across the nation.
He lauded the railways’ pivotal role in the ongoing development narrative, highlighting the inauguration and foundation laying of numerous projects totaling over Rs 11 lakh crores in just 75 days of 2024. Additionally, he underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing railway connectivity and amenities, citing transformative measures undertaken since 2014.

PM Modi reiterated the government’s focus on fostering indigenous manufacturing through initiatives like the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, which aims to promote India’s cottage industry and handicrafts. He emphasized the significance of such projects in not only driving economic growth but also in realizing the vision of a self-reliant India.
Addressing concerns predating 2014, PM Modi outlined the challenges in railway infrastructure, including inadequate connectivity in Northeastern capitals and safety issues such as unmanned railway crossings.

He affirmed the government’s resolve in overcoming these challenges, citing a six-fold increase in the railway budget since 2014 and the expansion of initiatives like the Vande Bharat network.
Underlining the transformative impact of railways on economic development, PM Modi highlighted ongoing modernization efforts, including the establishment of Gati Shakti University and the adoption of advanced signalling systems. He emphasized the role of railways in promoting sustainable practices, such as solar-powered stations and electrification initiatives.

The ceremony also witnessed the inauguration of the Eastern and Western dedicated freight corridors, symbolizing a decade of progress in bolstering transportation infrastructure. These corridors are expected to significantly enhance the speed and efficiency of freight transportation, benefiting various sectors including agriculture and industry.
