New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Pokhran firing range in Rajasthan on Tuesday to witness the Bharat Shakti exercise, which showcased the prowess of indigenous defence equipment across all three services.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of reducing reliance on external sources to foster a self-reliant India. He underscored the importance of ‘atmanirbharta’ across various sectors, ranging from edible oils to cutting-edge aircraft technology.
“The idea of Viksit Bharat is unimaginable without aatmanirbhar Bharat”, the Prime Minister said, underscoring the need to reduce dependence on others.
Noting that Bharat Shakti is a step towards this resolution, the Prime Minister said that India is laying emphasis on aatmanirbharta from edible oils to fighter jets. The Prime Minister said that the success of aatmnirbharta in defence can be seen with India’s tanks, cannons, fighter jets, helicopters and missile systems which reflect India’s strength.

“We are experiencing the flight of Made in India with arms and ammunition, communication devices, cyber and space. This is indeed Bharat Shakti”, an elated Prime Minister said. He also mentioned indigenously made Tejas fighter jets, advanced light combat helicopters, submarines, destroyers, aircraft carriers, advanced Arjun Tanks and cannons.

PM Modi highlighted that over the past decade, the country’s defense production has more than doubled, exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore, giving credit to the youth for their significant contribution to this achievement.
He noted the emergence of over 150 defense startups in the last 10 years, with the armed forces committing orders worth Rs 1,800 crore to support them.

Asserting that self-reliance in the defense sector bolsters the confidence of the armed forces, PM Modi stated that the integrated tri-service firepower and maneuver exercise lasted approximately 50 minutes.
Reflecting on the significance of Pokhran, PM Modi described it as a symbol of India’s self-reliance, belief, and pride. He remarked, “The roar of aircraft in the sky and the valor displayed on the ground during the Bharat Shakti exercise symbolize the spirit of ‘New India’.”
