In a significant breakthrough, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested 30-year-old Shama Parveen from Bengaluru, who is accused of being the key conspirator behind a terror module linked to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
According to officials, Parveen was the main handler and allegedly operated the entire module from Karnataka. Her arrest marks a major development in the investigation of a network believed to have cross-border connections and high-profile targets across India.
Four Others Arrested Earlier from Gujarat, Noida, and Delhi
Parveen’s arrest follows the earlier detention of four suspects on July 23 from Gujarat, Delhi, and Noida. The men — Mohd Fardeen, Sefullah Kureshi, Zeeshan Ali, and Mohd Faiq — were between 20 and 25 years old and allegedly coordinated using a social media platform.

Authorities stated that the suspects were in regular contact with handlers outside India and were planning coordinated attacks on prominent locations across the country. The network, according to early investigations, was aimed at executing high-impact strikes under the direction of AQIS.
UN Report Flags Rising AQIS Threat in the Region
A recent UN Security Council report has also raised concerns about AQIS’s growing ambitions in the region. The 32nd Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team report revealed that AQIS, under emir Osama Mehmood, is actively working to expand its operations across Jammu and Kashmir, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The timing of the arrests appears to align with these international concerns over renewed extremist activity in South Asia.
