An FIR has been registered against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a scene in their recently released film Jaat.
The Jalandhar police filed the First Information Report on Wednesday under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings. The film’s director, Gopichand Malineni, and its producers have also been named in the complaint.
Christian sentiments allegedly hurt by the movie
According to the complainant, one particular scene in the film — which premiered on April 10 — has “deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Christian community.” It was further alleged that the film disrespects Jesus Christ.
The complaint accuses the filmmakers of intentionally releasing Jaat during the holy period of Good Friday and Easter to provoke anger within the Christian community and incite unrest across the country.
