New Delhi: With a jump of 60 per cent Covid cases in a day, Delhi on Wednesday recorded 1009 new cases. This was the highest ever jump in cases after February 10 when city had recorded 1104 cases. Meanwhile, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) ordered compulsory use of mask again in public places. The disaster body also announced to impose a fine of Rs 500 for violating the order.
The city conducted a total of 17,701 tests day ago out of which 5.7 per cent were found positive. One person was also died in the city to the infection.
Notably, Delhi, on Tuesday, had recorded 632 Covid positive cases and positivity rate of 4.42 per cent. On Monday, however, there were reports of 501 cases with a positivity rate of 7.72 per cent. With this, the number of active cases has increased to 2,641.
As far as hospitalisation rate is concerned, less than three per cent of the active cases are in hospitals across the city. At present, 54 patients are admitted at hospitals for treatment of Coronavirus while remaining are recuperating in home isolation.

In the meantime, the disaster management authority has also decided not to shut schools and is likely to unveil a separate Standard Operating Procedure in consultation with experts. The city has also started genome sequencing of samples of all Covid infected people so it could ascertain if a new variant, such as the XE, has spread in the city.
