British rock band Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres concerts in Ahmedabad did more than entertain — they delivered a massive economic impact to the city and India at large.
According to a new report by EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow, the two-night musical spectacle at the Narendra Modi Stadium generated an estimated economic impact of over ₹641 crore, with ₹392 crore directly benefiting the local economy.“It also contributed Rs 72 crore in GST revenue to the Government of India, underlining its powerful fiscal impact. Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres concerts catapulted Ahmedabad onto the global entertainment stage, drawing visitors from over 500 cities spanning all 28 states and 5 union territories,” the report added.
The concerts, held on January 25 and 26, drew an impressive 2,22,000 fans, transforming Ahmedabad into a buzzing entertainment hub. The influx saw packed flights and trains, and hotels charging up to ₹1.6 lakh for two-night stays. Local hospitality and transportation sectors hit record highs.

Spending extended beyond just tickets. For every ₹100 spent on tickets, fans shelled out an additional ₹585 on food, shopping, transport, and hotels. Over half of the attendees stayed longer than planned, further driving up hospitality and tourism revenues.
The ripple effects were widespread. Retail and fashion saw a spike, food and beverage sales surged, and thousands of temporary jobs were created. A total of 15,000 people were employed for the event — including Coldplay’s crew, BookMyShow Live staff, volunteers, and government officials — with 9,000 workers hailing from Ahmedabad itself.
Coldplay — comprising Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion — kicked off their India tour in Mumbai on January 18, followed by shows on the 19th and 21st. The Ahmedabad shows capped the tour, with the final concert streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar.
The Coldplay concerts didn’t just make musical headlines — they redefined what global live entertainment can mean for an Indian city.
