A jawan of the Chhattisgarh Police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) was killed and at least two other personnel injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast planted by Maoists in Bijapur district on Monday morning.
According to officials, the explosion occurred in the Indravati National Park region when a team of the DRG, a specialised unit of the state police, was carrying out an anti-Maoist operation. “DRG Jawan Dinesh Nag was killed in the blast,” a senior official confirmed.
The injured personnel were given preliminary treatment and are being evacuated from the forest area, the official added.
Crackdown on Maoists Intensifies Across Chhattisgarh
The anti-Maoist operation is part of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s pledge that India would be free of Maoism by March 31, 2026. He has said that Maoism has obstructed development in several parts of the country for years.
In recent months, security forces have intensified operations against Maoist groups. Last month, six Maoists were killed in an encounter in the Abujhmad region of Narayanpur district. In July, senior Maoist leader Sodhi Kanna, who carried a reward of ₹8 lakh, was killed in Bijapur.
