Women face barriers to education due to poverty, cultural norms and practices, as well as inadequate infrastructure. Their education is a strategic development priority that will not only help shape lives but also contribute to the development of the nation, said the NDMC V-C.

New Delhi: Under the initiative ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Vice-Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Satish Upadhyay, on Tuesday awarded Rs 1000 to 225 girl students selected from 25 schools.
Upadhyay said that women face barriers to education due to poverty, cultural norms and practices, as well as inadequate infrastructure. Their education is a strategic development priority that will not only help shape lives but also contribute to the development of the nation. The birth of a girl child is still not welcomed in many parts of India even after 75 years of Independence.
“Under the project ‘Beti Ko Shiksha Aur Samman’, to increase access to education for disadvantaged girls from marginalized households, monthly scholarships of Rs 1000 are provided to underprivileged and meritorious girl students to ensure that they remain in the academic stream and achieve their full potential,” he said.
“NDMC’s education department helped in identifying such meritorious girls from different NDMC schools and RCDS has been providing scholarships of Rs 1000 per month since January, to over 225 girls across NDMC schools,” he added.
The NDMC V-C said that the collaborating schools play a pivotal role in the success of the project by providing the right education and encouraging the girls to continue with their education. The schools also support RCDS to monitor beneficiary progress and share quarterly report cards of every student supported under the project to enable tracking of their progress and support with intervention if required.
