The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged sexual assault of two nursery students in Badlapur, Maharashtra, has recorded the statements of the accused’s father and brother, sources revealed. The SIT is looking into the incident after public outrage forced a thorough review of the case, previously allegedly mishandled by the local police.

According to sources, the accused’s family members indicated that he was mentally fit, contradicting any claims of mental instability. Moreover, they described him as having a “cruel mentality”, supporting allegations of abusive behaviour. The accused, who worked as an attendant at the school, is accused of sexually assaulting the children, an incident that has sparked widespread protests across the state.

Family Testimony Highlights History of Abuse

The man’s first wife, who separated from him just five days after their marriage, also made a damning statement, alleging that he used to beat her and engage in “unnatural, cruel acts”. This history of abusive behaviour has further strengthened the SIT’s case against the accused, who now faces serious charges of sexual assault.

Sources say the SIT has gathered sufficient evidence against the man accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case, although they are still searching for his mobile phone, a potentially crucial piece of evidence.

Bombay High Court’s Involvement

The SIT was formed after the Bombay High Court reprimanded local authorities for their inadequate investigation into the Badlapur sexual assault case. During a hearing on September 3, the court cautioned the SIT not to rush the investigation due to public pressure. “Investigation has to be done properly before the chargesheet is filed,” the court noted, emphasizing that this case could set a precedent for how future cases of sexual abuse in schools are handled.

Protests have erupted in several parts of Maharashtra, demanding justice for the victims. The brutal nature of the crime has deeply shocked the public, and many are now closely following the SIT’s progress as the investigation continues.

As the case moves forward, the SIT’s meticulous approach to gathering evidence and testimonies will be critical in ensuring that justice is served for the young victims.
