A day after walking out of jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said despite efforts to suppress the Aam Aadmi Party, the party’s ideology will persist and thrive. “They want to crush us, but the Aam Aadmi Party is an idea. It will keep growing the more they try to finish us,” Kejriwal said.

Arvind Kejriwal, who is now out on election campaigning, specifically called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of orchestrating power transitions within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to consolidate control.

He highlighted the BJP’s practice of replacing chief ministers in various states before assembly elections to limit their authority. “If the BJP comes to power again, the first thing PM Modi will do is to change Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” Arvind Kejriwal asserted.

He noted a trend in BJP’s strategies, alleging, “The politics of LK Advani, Murli Joshi, Shivraj Chauhan, Vasundhara Raje, Khattar, Raman Singh has been finished. Yogi Adityanath is next. If he (PM Modi) wins, he will change UP Chief Minister within a month.”

Arvind Kejriwal criticised the BJP’s methods, claiming a systematic approach to targeting opposition-led state governments through legal actions. “There is a pattern to the BJP’s attacks – jail all chief ministers in Opposition-ruled states and overthrow the government,” he remarked, referencing his own experience of facing arrest without resigning from his position as Chief Minister.

The AAP leader highlighted the challenges faced by his party, stating, “Our AAP is a small party, present in two states. But the Prime Minister left no stone unturned to crush our party and sent four leaders to jail at the same time.” He emphasised the broader implications of his arrest, suggesting it was part of a larger narrative of centralised control, likening it to the BJP’s push for a ‘one nation, one leader’ approach.

Regarding his interim bail granted by the Supreme Court to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls, Arvind Kejriwal acknowledged the limitations imposed by the court’s conditions. He cannot engage in official duties or access his office freely, requiring permission for urgent matters from the Lieutenant Governor.

The Supreme Court’s decision to grant interim relief was motivated by the electoral context, acknowledging the impracticality of concluding legal proceedings during this critical phase of national elections.
