In a fresh verbal exchange between political rivals, BJP leader Navneet Rana has thrown down the gauntlet to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, asserting that “Ram bhakts” (devotees of Lord Ram) are ubiquitous in every street. Responding to Owaisi’s characterization of his brother as a “cannon,” Rana quipped that such “cannons” were merely ornamental outside her residence.
Rana, emphasizing her lineage as a soldier’s daughter, retorted, “We keep cannons outside for decoration… Owaisi says that he has kept his brother under control. It is good, otherwise Ram bhakts and Modi ji’s lions are roaming in every street across the country. I am coming to Hyderabad soon.”
These remarks by Rana came in the aftermath of Asaduddin Owaisi’s recent statement during a rally in Moghalpura, where he likened his younger brother Akbaruddin to a “cannon” that he has restrained after considerable effort. “I have stopped chotte (Akbaruddin). You don’t know who chotte is. He is a canon. Son of Salar. What do you want? Should I cut him loose?,” Owaisi had declared.
This verbal sparring follows closely on the heels of Rana’s controversial comment made while campaigning for BJP’s Hyderabad Lok Sabha candidate Madhavi Latha. She remarked that if the police were removed from duty for “15 seconds,” the Owaisi brothers would be bewildered as to their sudden appearance and disappearance.
Rana’s statement was a direct response to a contentious 2013 speech by AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, in which he had asserted that it would take them merely “15 minutes” to alter the “Hindu-Muslim ratio” in the country if the police were removed.
Reacting to Rana’s latest remarks, Asaduddin Owaisi called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend the time frame to “one hour” instead of “15 seconds,” underscoring that he harbored no fear of the BJP leader. “I am telling PM Modi to give 15 seconds. Not 15 seconds, but take one hour. We are not scared, we also want to see how much humanity is left in you,” Owaisi retorted.
However, the political tension has escalated further with a case filed against Navneet Rana for her alleged comments insinuating that “a vote for Congress is a vote for Pakistan.” The FIR was lodged by the Telangana Police, indicating the deepening fissures in the political landscape ahead of the impending elections.
