In a significant development in the legal dispute surrounding the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple and the adjacent Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura, the Allahabad High Court has rejected a plea filed by the Hindu side to officially designate the mosque as a “disputed structure” in all court records and proceedings.
The petition, known as Application A-44, was filed by Advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh, who is representing the Hindu side in the case. It requested the court to replace the term “Shahi Idgah Mosque” with “disputed structure” across all case documents.
The petition was part of a broader legal challenge over the alleged encroachment by the mosque on land believed by many Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
Muslim Side Opposes Terminology Change, Court Upholds Objection
Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, presiding over the single-judge bench, heard arguments from both sides before rejecting the petition. The Muslim side had submitted a written objection opposing the proposed change in terminology, asserting that such a designation was unwarranted and prejudicial.

Following deliberations, the court sided with the objection and dismissed the Hindu side’s application. The case remains part of a wider set of 18 petitions filed by various members of the Hindu community seeking legal redress in the long-standing religious and property dispute.
The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for August 2.
