Kamal Kaur Bhabi Murder Updates | The Punjab Police on Tuesday confirmed that YouTuber Kanchan Kumari, widely known online as Kamal Kaur Bhabi, was strangled to death using a kamar kass, a traditional belt worn by Nihang Sikhs. Her body was discovered on June 11 inside her car parked at Adesh University, Bathinda.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal said the murder occurred on the intervening night of June 9 and 10. While the post-mortem report confirmed death due to asphyxia, it ruled out sexual assault. The viscera report is still awaited for further clarification.
Arrests, Conspiracy, and Flight to UAE
The police have so far arrested two Nihang Singhs — Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjeet Singh — who confessed during interrogation that Kanchan was slapped repeatedly to obtain her mobile passwords. Once she revealed them, Amritpal Singh Mehron allegedly took both phones and fled to the UAE on the morning of June 10, mere hours after the crime.
“The kamar kass used for strangulation was later burnt in an attempt to destroy evidence,” said SSP Kondal, adding, “We have obtained an arrest warrant and are initiating the deportation process for Amritpal Singh Mehron. He was present at the scene and is a key conspirator.”

The stolen mobile phones and the data they may have contained are under investigation, with authorities suggesting sensitive digital content could have triggered the violent crime.
Threats to Other Influencers and Public Backlash
Amritpal Singh Mehron is also accused of issuing threats to other social media personalities, including Deepika Luthra of Amritsar, who has since deleted her accounts following persistent intimidation. An FIR has been registered, and police protection provided to her.
The murder has sparked national outrage, drawing condemnation from celebrities and community leaders. Bollywood singer Mika Singh posted a video message, saying, “Killing a woman is not bravery… This is not what Sikhi teaches us.” He also appealed to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to take strict action.
Baba Harjit Singh Rasulpur, representing the Misl Shaheedan Nihang Baba Fakir Singh Rasulpur Dal, condemned the killing and called out Amritpal’s hypocrisy, saying, “If the content was objectionable, one could choose not to watch it. Murder is never the answer.”
Pressure Over ‘Kaur’ Surname Allegedly Led to Killing
Kanchan Kumari, a resident of Lachhman Colony, Ludhiana, had family roots in Uttar Pradesh. According to police sources, the accused had been pressuring her to remove the word ‘Kaur’ from her social media handles. Her refusal may have led to her murder.

In a defiant response, Canada-based Punjabi influencer Surleen, known for her bold content, stated, “I have handled my life alone before and will continue to do so. I don’t owe anyone an apology for my content.”
The Punjab Police continues to track Amritpal Singh’s exact location in the UAE and pursue his deportation through legal channels.
