In a shocking incident that has rattled Haryana, model Sheetal Choudhary, also known as Simi, was found dead with her throat slit in a canal near Kharkhoda, Sonipat, just two days after she went missing following an altercation with her boyfriend. The accused, Sunil, a married man with two children, has confessed to the murder, police confirmed on Tuesday.
According to police reports, Sheetal and Sunil had a heated argument on Saturday night, which turned violent. Sunil allegedly beat and stabbed Sheetal multiple times before throwing her into a canal in Panipat. Initially, he tried to mislead authorities by claiming the incident was a car accident.
Timeline of Events: From Dispute to Confession
June 14 – The Night of the Crime
Sheetal had travelled to Ahar village in Panipat for a music album shoot. At around 10:30 PM, Sunil arrived to meet her. The couple sat in his car, had a few drinks, and soon an argument ensued. Around 1:30 AM, Sheetal video-called her sister Neha, informing her that Sunil was physically assaulting her. Moments later, her phone was switched off.
Sunil murdered Sheetal and disposed of her body and car by pushing them into a nearby canal.
June 15 – Sunil Hospitalised, Claims Accident
The next day, Sunil checked into a hospital in Panipat, claiming that his car had fallen into a canal, killing Sheetal while he managed to escape. Police recovered the car from the canal but Sheetal’s body was missing.
June 16 – Body Recovered in Sonipat Canal
A throat-slit body with multiple stab wounds was recovered from a canal in Kharkhoda, Sonipat, about 80 km from Panipat. Identification was made based on tattoos on the hand and chest, confirming it to be Sheetal. Her body has been sent for postmortem.

June 17 – Sunil Confesses to Murder
During interrogation, Sunil confessed to killing Sheetal. Police have arrested him and are investigating the motive behind the gruesome crime. The exact cause of the dispute is yet to be officially determined.
A Complex Relationship Spanning Six Years
Sunil and Sheetal had known each other for about six years, having first met when Sheetal worked at Sunil’s hotel in Karnal. Sunil had proposed marriage, but Sheetal declined after discovering he was already married with two children. Sheetal, a known face in the Haryanvi music industry, was also married and the mother of a five-month-old child.
The case has triggered massive public outrage and renewed conversations around safety, domestic abuse, and gender-based violence.
