A popular food vlogger, Irfan, is facing legal trouble after filming and personally cutting the umbilical cord of his newborn inside a private hospital in Chennai. The video, posted on his YouTube channel, garnered over 1.4 million views within two days but has since been taken down after receiving widespread criticism. Irfan filmed his wife’s delivery inside the operation theatre, a practice that is strictly prohibited.
The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services has issued a showcause notice to Irfan for violating medical norms and lodged a police complaint against the doctor and hospital involved in the incident. The health department is also seeking a ban on the doctor who allowed such an act to occur.
State Health Minister Ma Subramanian condemned both Irfan and the hospital, stating that they violated the National Medical Commission Act.

“We have complained to the state medical council about the doctor who asked Irfan if he wants to cut the cord. It is the job of a doctor, and it cannot be designated to an attendant,” said Dr. J Rajamoorthy, Director of Medical Services, as quoted by the Times of India.
This incident is not the first time Irfan has courted controversy. In May, he shared the gender of his baby after taking a sex determination test in Dubai, an action that is illegal in India. Irfan had apologized following a reprimand from the health department for his earlier actions.
