Now, another Sandeshkhali woman says she was made to sign blank paper, level fake rape charges against TMC leaders

The Sandeshkhali controversy in West Bengal has once again taken a dramatic turn with allegations surfacing that individuals associated with the BJP coerced a woman into signing a blank paper, which was later used to fabricate a false rape complaint against local Trinamool Congress leaders.

The accusation came days after a block level leader of the BJP was allegedly caught in a sting video claiming that the Sandeshkhali incident was orchestrated by the BJP leaders, especially Suvendu Adhikari.

This development has further fuelled the political rivalry between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, both vying for advantage during the ongoing election season.

According to a Sandeshkhali resident, who spoke to the media, she was misled by a woman named Piyali into signing a blank sheet of paper when a team from the National Commission for Women visited the area.

The Sandeshkhali resident clarified that her sole grievance was related to not receiving payments under the 100 days’ job scheme, and she had no involvement in any rape accusation.

She alleged that Piyali subsequently included her name in a list of women accusing local Trinamool leaders of rape.

The woman’s daughters-in-law condemned Piyali’s actions, labelling her as an outsider affiliated with the BJP who misled and defamed residents of Sandeshkhali for political motives.

They claimed that Piyali participated in local protests before her political alignment with the BJP became apparent. The family has now said that they are receiving threats for publicly denouncing Piyali’s actions.

The Trinamool Congress, which faced serious allegations against its local leaders, including that of rape and extortion, seized upon these revelations to accuse the BJP of orchestrating a smear campaign against the ruling party.

Trinamool MP Sushmita Dev criticised the BJP for intimidating the brave women of Sandeshkhali who dared to speak out against them, alleging that the BJP was shamelessly exploiting the dignity of women for political gain.

In response, the BJP dismissed Trinamool’s allegations as a belated attempt at damage control. Party spokesperson Priyanka Tibrewal questioned why the Trinamool remained silent for several months before responding to the controversy in Sandeshkhali.

Tibrewal suggested that Trinamool’s reactions were too late and indicated that the accusations had already caused irreparable damage.

The political friction surrounding Sandeshkhali escalated further with the Trinamool Congress filing a complaint with the Election Commission against several BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, for allegedly spreading fabricated allegations related to the Sandeshkhali matter.
