Kolkata: Hours after a blast at a house rocked Basanti in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, the injured, identified as Farukh Sardar, died at a hospital while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, police sources said Sardar used to stack bombs at his home and Tuesday morning, one of the bombs exploded, injuring him.
Officials also informed that Sardar suffered 90 percent burn injuries but ran away from the home, located in the Fulmalancha gram panchayat, and was only found after seven hours. The blast had taken place around 9:30 am.
When found, Sardar was first rushed to the Caning sub-divisional hospital and from there, he was referred to Kolkata but while he was being brought to the city, his condition deteriorated. He was then admitted to the Baruipur sub-divisional hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
Sources said the incident has led to a panic in the area and a police team from the Basanti police station has reached the spot and is carrying out an investigation. Police officers privy to the investigation said, “The intensity of the blast was so high that the entire house got gutted in the flames.”
Meanwhile, the police have detained and are questioning the owner of the house, Hajimuddin Sardar, on the presence of bombs in the house.
Tuesday’s incident comes barely three days after a portion of a house in Malda district in West Bengal was reduced to rubbles in an explosion. The blast also killed a three-year-old child. On March 27, in yet another incident of explosion, the owner of a house was injured in Burdwan after a bomb went off while he was cleaning his garden.
