“Resurgence is possible only with the right direction and collective effort and it won’t be avoided. The Chintan Shivir is an opportunity to discuss both national issues and do meaningful self- introspection,” Sonia said.

New Delhi: “We are in dire need of reforms”, a strong statement made by Congress president Sonia Gandhi was probably the most apt way to begin the Chintan Shivir. In her short but crisp address, Sonia also said that the party needs change in strategy and the day-to-day functioning.
“Resurgence is possible only with the right direction and collective effort and it won’t be avoided. The Chintan Shivir is an opportunity to discuss both national issues and do meaningful self- introspection,” Sonia said.
Meanwhile, not missing a chance to hit out at the Narendra Modi-led Centre, Sonia said, “By now it has become abundantly and painfully clear what PM Modi and his colleagues really mean by their slogan ‘Maximum governance, minimum government’. It means keeping the country in a permanent state of polarisation, compelling people to live in a constant state of fear and insecurity, viciously targeting, victimising and often brutalising minorities who are an integral part of our society and equal citizens of our republic.”

She added, “It means dividing people and subverting the carefully nurtured idea of unity and diversity along with intimidating political opponents and jailing them on a flimsy pretext. It means wholesale re-invention of history, constant denigration of leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru and a systematic move to destroy their achievements and sacrifices while glorifying the killers of Mahatma Gandhi and their ideologues.”
Sonia further said, “It means using fear to make bureaucracy, corporates, civil society & sections of the media fall in line. There are more empty slogans and diversionary tactics and utter silence on the part of eloquent PM when healing touch is most needed.”
Over 400 party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will participate in the discussions over the next few days in the brainstorming session at Rajasthan’s Udaipur.
