New Delhi: Alka Rai, the wife of late BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, expressed satisfaction on Friday over the demise of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who was responsible for her husband’s killing. Mukhtar Ansari passed away in a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
In a statement to a news agency, Rai said, “What can I say? This is the blessing of the Almighty. I used to pray to him for justice and it has been served today.”
She revealed that they refrained from celebrating Holi since her husband’s murder, stating, “We never celebrated Holi after the incident (the murder). I feel today is Holi for us. It is a day of happiness for those children who were orphaned, because a criminal has been removed from the Earth.”
Responding to opposition parties’ queries regarding the death of Mukhtar Ansari, she dismissed their concerns as unjust.
However, Ansari’s son alleged foul play, claiming his father was “poisoned” through his food. “Now the whole nation knows everything…On March 19, he was given poison in the dinner. We will approach the judiciary, we have full faith in it,” said Umar Ansari.
Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati echoed similar sentiments, calling for a thorough investigation into the death of Mukhtar Ansari in jail to ascertain the truth.
In April 2023, Mukhtar Ansari was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai by an MP MLA court. Subsequently, on March 13, 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison in a case pertaining to the use of forged documents to obtain an arms license in 1990.
