The Russian military announced on Tuesday that its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed 337 Ukrainian drones overnight across 10 Russian regions. This marks the largest Ukrainian drone attack on Russian territory in the past three years. The assault resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, with extensive damage reported in several areas.
The attack coincided with a scheduled meeting between a Ukrainian delegation and U.S. Secretary of State in Saudi Arabia, where discussions were set to take place on ending the ongoing three-year war between Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian officials have yet to comment on the drone offensive.
Largest Drone Attack in Three Years
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the most intense attacks occurred in the Kursk region, where 126 drones were intercepted. The Moscow region also faced a significant onslaught, with 91 drones shot down. Other affected areas included Belgorod, Bryansk, and Voronezh, which border Ukraine, as well as deeper Russian territories such as Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukraine launched the largest drone attack in the war.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that more than 70 drones targeted the Russian capital, but air defense systems successfully neutralized them before they reached the city.
Casualties and Damage
Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that one person was killed and nine others were wounded. The attack damaged seven apartments in a residential complex, ignited multiple vehicles in a parking lot, and caused destruction in two additional residential buildings. Meanwhile, Lipetsk region Governor Igor Artamonov confirmed another injury on a highway.
A building in Moscow also sustained minor roof damage, according to Mayor Sobyanin. Footage from RIA Novosti depicted a scorched section on the facade of a multi-story residential building near the rooftop, with external cladding partially torn away.
Disruptions in Transportation
The attack led to temporary flight restrictions at six major airports, including Moscow’s Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky, as well as airports in the Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod regions. Additionally, train services through the Domodedovo railway station were briefly suspended, local authorities reported.
Expanding the Conflict?
Reports from local officials indicated drone interceptions in the Tula and Vladimir regions, adjacent to the Moscow region, though these areas were not mentioned in the Russian Defense Ministry’s official statement. The scope of this attack suggests a potential escalation in tactics by Ukraine, though Kyiv has yet to acknowledge involvement.
