The order, issued on Wednesday, bars them from freely moving about the city and attending events or rituals without invitation. Additionally, it prohibits their gathering at traffic intersections to ask for money from pedestrians.
This isn’t the first time Amitesh Kumar has implemented such measures; similar directives were enforced during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Nagpur City last year.
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure grants district magistrates and other magisterial officials the authority to impose prohibitive measures to prevent potential disruptions to public order and safety.
Effective for a month from Friday onwards, the order also assures that any objections raised against it will be duly considered. According to officials, the decree comes in response to complaints alleging instances of harassment and extortion by transgenders in Pune in public spaces and residences.
