In a significant political move ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Bharatpur, Humayun Kabir, has declared the formation of a new political party. The party is set to be officially launched on January 1, 2026, and will field candidates in 50 to 52 constituencies across key districts of Bengal.
Kabir confirmed the development in an exclusive conversation, stating that his outfit will focus on seats in Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, and parts of Nadia. “My new party will not be confined to Murshidabad alone,” Kabir said, signalling ambitions beyond his home turf.
Kabir Distances Rebellion from Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee
Though Kabir has repeatedly challenged the TMC line in recent months, he clarified that his discontent is aimed solely at the district-level leadership, and not against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

“I hold no animosity towards Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee,” he said, adding that his opposition stemmed from mismanagement and internal issues at the local level.
The TMC high command had earlier issued a show-cause notice to Kabir for his continued defiance, which many now see as a prelude to his formal exit from the party structure.
Known for his grassroots influence in minority-dominated regions, Kabir’s entry into the fray with a new political platform could shift the dynamics of North Bengal’s electoral battlefield, especially in districts with complex caste-community equations.
