Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh, campaigning for his brother and Congress candidate Dhiraj Deshmukh, criticized the political use of religion, stating that some parties are more focused on saving themselves than genuinely protecting religious values. Riteish spoke at a rally in Latur for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, where Dhiraj Deshmukh is challenging BJP candidate Ramesh Karad for the Latur (Rural) seat in the upcoming November 20 elections.

“Lord Krishna said karma (work) is dharma (religion). The one who works sincerely is doing dharma. Those who don’t work need religion,” Riteish remarked, emphasizing that political leaders should prioritize development over religious rhetoric. “Those who claim their religion is in danger, it is their party that is in danger. Tell them we will take care of our religion; you first speak about development.”

Focus on Employment and Farmer Issues

During his speech, Riteish highlighted key issues affecting Maharashtra’s youth and farmers, calling on the government to take responsibility for creating employment opportunities. “The educated youth of the state don’t have jobs, and it is the government’s responsibility to give them employment,” he said, adding that farmers were struggling to secure fair prices for their crops.

In the 2019 assembly election, Dhiraj Deshmukh won the Latur (Rural) seat by a margin of 1.21 lakh votes. Riteish urged voters to continue supporting Dhiraj with the same fervor and secure a decisive victory against the opposition.

Empowering the Youth and Safeguarding Maharashtra’s Identity

Riteish encouraged the youth to understand the importance of their vote and protect the rights and dignity of all citizens. He stressed the significance of preserving Maharashtra’s identity and prioritizing state welfare over political gains. “Vote to protect the dignity and rights of every citizen,” he said, rallying supporters for a strong turnout in favor of his brother.

As Maharashtra approaches the November 20 polls, the Deshmukh family’s influence and strong local connections could be pivotal in securing another victory for Congress in Latur.
