India has opened its very first glass bridge over the sea in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. The glass bridge links two famous sites—the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue. Stretching 77 meters long and 10 meters wide, this impressive structure promises to change the way we see tourism in the area, providing stunning views and a memorable experience for everyone who visits.
At the heart of the glass bridge is a stunning glass floor that measures 2.5 meters across, letting visitors look down at the sparkling waters of the Bay of Bengal. This design beautifully blends style with modern engineering to cope with the tough conditions of the area, like strong sea winds and salt damage, making sure it’s safe and long-lasting. With an estimated price of Rs 37 crore, the bridge represents a major step forward for tourism and new ideas in the area.

Before the bridge was built, people could only get to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue by taking a ferry. Now, with the new pedestrian bridge, they have a direct, beautiful, and safe way to walk between them. This not only makes it easier for visitors but also allows them to enjoy the peaceful views of Kanyakumari’s coast.
Connecting History
On December 30, 2024, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially opened the bridge in a ceremony that included various dignitaries and officials. As he walked across the glass bridge, he highlighted how it would help local tourism and serve as a modern entry point for people to discover the region’s rich culture and history.
