The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is facing significant scrutiny after Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha MP, was reportedly harassed by Bibhav Kumar, the personal assistant of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at Kejriwal’s residence.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh condemned the incident and stated that Arvind Kejriwal has taken cognizance and ordered strict action against Kumar. Swati Maliwal has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
What happened
Swati Maliwal was waiting to meet Arvind Kejriwal at his residence when Bibhav Kumar allegedly misbehaved with her. Following this, Swati Maliwal called the police.
Sanjay Singh described the incident as highly condemnable and stated that AAP does not support such behaviour. He emphasised that strict action will be taken as per Kejriwal’s order.
Political Reactions
The BJP has criticized AAP for the delay in addressing the incident. Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi BJP chief, questioned the 36-hour delay in Kejriwal’s response and demanded immediate action.

The incident has sparked a political row, with BJP and Congress councillors demanding action and calling for Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation during a Delhi municipal corporation meeting.
What Delhi Police said
The police confirmed receiving a call from the phone number of Swati Maliwal, reporting the harassment. Although Swati Maliwal visited the police station, she left without filing a formal complaint.
The NCW has initiated a probe into the incident and has demanded an action-taken report from Delhi Police within 72 hours.
Background and ongoing Issues
This incident comes amid ongoing tensions related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, in which AAP and its leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, are accused of corruption. The Enforcement Directorate has claimed that the party received bribes for liquor sales licenses.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested in connection with the liquor policy scam and was released on bail to campaign for the AAP until June 1.
