According to sources, KK was performing at a programme organised by Gurudas college.
As per reports, local authorities have contacted his family members and his wife and two sons will reach Kolkata on Wednesday morning. In the last two days, the singer had performed into shows.
KK had performed at Nazrul Manch till 8:30 pm after which he fell ill and returned to his hotel. He was rushed to CMRI hospital where he was declared dead.
Meanwhile, music director Jeet Ganguly, West Bengal Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas have rushed to the hospital.
Condoling his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
Cricketer Virender Sehwag tweeted, “Tragic to hear about the passing away of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.”
Noted singer Vishal Dadlani condoled his death and wrote on Twitter, “This cannot be real. @K_K_Pal , nothing will be the same without you. Nothing. My heart is in tatters. The voice of purity itself, of kindness of decency, of a true heart of gold. Gone.” He added, “The tears won’t stop. What a guy he was. What a voice, what a heart, what a human being. #KK is FOREVER!!!”
