Chhattisgarh Maoist Attack: In one of the deadliest attacks on security forces in recent years, eight District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and a driver were killed after Maoists detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.
The incident occurred on the Bedre-Kutru Road, near Ambeli village in the Kutru police station area, at approximately 2:15 pm on January 6, 2025, as the security personnel were returning from a joint operation conducted across Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur districts.
Details of the Attack
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bastar confirmed the details, stating, “Unidentified Maoists detonated an IED when the security personnel were en route to their base camp after an operation.”
This marks the biggest strike on security personnel by Maoists in the last two years.
A Grim Reminder of Maoist Violence
The attack comes nearly two years after a similar incident on April 26, 2023, in Dantewada district, where ten police personnel and a civilian driver were killed in an IED blast.

Reacting to the tragedy, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and former Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act.”
“Whenever big operations are conducted against them, these Maoists resort to cowardly attacks. I express my condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in this attack. The significant steps being taken by the Chhattisgarh government and the central government will continue to move forward,” Singh stated.
Recent Operations Against Maoists
This incident follows a major anti-Maoist operation on January 4, where five Maoists were killed in an encounter in the south Abujhmaad forest, along the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts.
The gunfight occurred as a joint team of security personnel intensified their efforts to neutralize Maoist activity in the region.
Authorities have promised a detailed statement on the incident soon. The attack underscores the challenges faced by security forces combating Maoist insurgency, which continues to pose a significant threat in Chhattisgarh and surrounding areas.
