The political controversy surrounding the Adani Group and allegations of bribery took a new turn as the BJP accused the Congress of being part of a larger plot to destabilize India, linking party leader Rahul Gandhi with US billionaire George Soros and global media agency OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project).
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused Rahul Gandhi of being part of a “triangular nexus” involving George Soros, the OCCRP, and anti-India elements. He alleged that this nexus aims to damage India’s growth and unity.
Patra directly called Gandhi a “traitor” for allegedly aligning with foreign-funded entities to tarnish India’s image globally.
He claimed OCCRP, which has published investigative reports on global corruption, receives significant funding from Soros’s Open Society Foundation, implying a bias against Indian interests.
Patra cited a report by French newspaper Mediapart, which linked OCCRP to US agencies and Soros, suggesting coordinated efforts to undermine India’s global standing.
Congress’s Response
The Congress has yet to provide a formal response to these specific allegations, though in the past, party leaders have dismissed similar accusations as diversionary tactics by the BJP to deflect from pressing issues such as the indictment of Gautam Adani in a US bribery case.

A US court recently indicted Gautam Adani’s nephew on allegations of promising over Rs 2,000 crore in bribes to Indian officials for securing solar power contracts. The Adani Group has denied the charges, with former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi asserting that Gautam Adani was not directly implicated.
Soros, known for his critical views on authoritarianism, has previously criticized PM Modi’s policies, which the BJP has used to claim a broader conspiracy against India’s leadership.
Political Implications
The BJP’s framing of this issue connects domestic opposition leaders with international critics of the government, portraying dissent as part of a foreign conspiracy.
Accusations of anti-national behavior place the Congress on the defensive, especially as it tries to position itself as a strong contender ahead of upcoming elections.
The evolving narrative highlights the intersection of corporate controversy, international politics, and domestic political rivalry, with both sides leveraging the situation to shape public opinion.
