A court in Surat found Congress MP Rahul Gandhi guilty in a 2009 defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail.

Talking to thetheorist.in, sources in the Congress said Gandhi’s team of lawyers will move the higher courts against the jail term.

A defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi by Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi. Purnesh represents the Surat West constituency.

The court also approved his bail on a surety of Rs 15,000 and allowed him 30 days to appeal against the sentence.

This is the first time the entire family has walked in the Bharat Jodo Yatra together.

Addressing the gathering at Red Fort, Gandhi said that another thing that was pointed out by most of the people was that he had walked 2800 Km starting from Kanyakumari.

Thousands of people from all walks of life register to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi, said Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar.

Addressing the rally, Gandhi said, “We named this yatra as ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ because thousands of people feel that the ideology of BJP/RSS is breaking the country.”

Adding that the Opposition should be strong, Gehlot said he will soon file his nomination for the election.
