“The results of Tuesday’s meeting are sufficient for a meeting at the leaders’ level,” Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia said, raising the possibility of a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin.

Negotiators of Russia and Ukraine hold a talk at Istanbul, Turkey on Tuesday

New Delhi: As the war between Russia and Ukraine entered the 34th day on Tuesday, Russia promised to cut down its military operations in Kyiv and Chernihiv. The development came after negotiation teams of both the countries held a round of discussions in Turkey’s Istanbul.

Alexander Fomin, the deputy minister of Russia, reportedly said, “To enhance trust between both the countries and to create a favourable condition for further talks to achieve the goal of agreeing and signing agreement, it has been decided to cut down military activities in Kyiv and Chernihiv directions.”

Russia has also claimed that Ukraine’s military might has drastically reduced and no longer has the might of its air force.

As negotiators sat together for the first face-to-face talks to de-escalate the situation, the top Russian negotiator said the talks were “constructive”. Russia also promised drastic cut in military activities in several parts of Ukraine while the former vowed adoption of a neutral status but with international guarantees that it would be protected from attacks.

“The results of Tuesday’s meeting are sufficient for a meeting at the leaders’ level,” Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia said, raising the possibility of a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin.

The Ukrainian president, on several occasions, has hinted that he is willing to engage in dialogues with his Russian counterpart. However on Monday, the Russian foreign ministry had ruled out direct talks between the two leaders as “counterproductive”.

Meanwhile, emergency services said three persons died while at least 22 people were injured when Russian forces fired a rocket at an administration building in the southern Ukrainian port of Mykolaiv. Russia reportedly said it destroyed a fuel depot in western Ukraine’s Rivne region. Ukrainian forces, however, have continued its counter attacks in Kyiv.
