In a significant development in the Pune Porsche crash case, the Pune police have arrested the mother of the teenage accused who allegedly ran over two people while driving the luxury car. According to the police, she swapped her blood sample with her son’s to prove he wasn’t drunk at the time of the accident.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar revealed that the investigation uncovered the replacement of the minor’s blood samples with those of his mother.

The tragic incident occurred on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar when a Porsche, allegedly driven by the intoxicated minor, collided with a two-wheeler, killing two techies, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Kostha, both 24-year-old engineers from Madhya Pradesh.

Following the incident, the 17-year-old was sent to an observation home. His father and grandfather were also arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and coercing him to take the blame for the accident.

Investigations have exposed efforts by the influential family to cover up the crime. Initially, they tried to bribe the family driver into taking responsibility for the crash. When he refused, they allegedly kidnapped him and continued to pressure him into confessing.

Additionally, there were irregularities in the 17-year-old’s medical examination at the state-run Sassoon Hospital. In response, the Maharashtra Medical Education Department appointed a three-member committee, led by Dr Pallavi Sapale, dean of Mumbai-based Grant Medical College, to investigate the matter.

Previously, the teen’s mother appeared in a video message claiming that a viral video purportedly showing her son was fake. She appealed to the police to “protect” her son and was visibly emotional on camera.

The teen was initially released on bail within 15 hours under conditions widely criticized as lenient—he was asked to write a 300-word essay, work with traffic cops for 15 days, and seek treatment for his drinking habit. Amid growing public outrage, the Juvenile Justice Board modified its order, sending him to an observation home until June 5, pending a decision on the police’s request to try the teen as an adult.
