Mumbai Police are on high alert following a series of threatening messages received over the weekend, including a bomb threat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and death threats aimed at Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

On Saturday morning, the Mumbai Traffic Police helpline received a WhatsApp message claiming a plot to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The message referenced two ISI agents and alleged plans for a bomb blast.

The sender’s number was traced to Ajmer, Rajasthan, prompting the deployment of a police team to apprehend the suspect. Investigators suspect the sender may be mentally disturbed or under the influence of alcohol, though the investigation is ongoing.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Mumbai Police have heightened vigilance, considering the gravity of the threat despite prior experiences with hoax messages on the helpline.

Death Threats to Salman Khan

In a separate incident, actor Salman Khan received death threats for the second time in 10 days. A message sent to the traffic police helpline on Friday warned Khan to either apologize to the Bishnoi community at their temple in Rajasthan or pay Rs 5 crore. Failure to comply, the message claimed, would lead to Khan’s assassination, allegedly by the Bishnoi gang.

The actor has previously faced threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, known for its involvement in crimes such as extortion and attempted murder. In April, suspected gang members fired outside Khan’s Bandra home, escalating concerns about his safety.

Mumbai Police have bolstered security around the actor and launched an investigation. Cyber experts are assisting in determining the sender’s identity and verifying any actual links to the Bishnoi gang. “This does not appear to be too serious, but we cannot take any such threat lightly,” said a senior officer.

Rising Concerns

Both threats have put Mumbai Police on edge, highlighting the challenges of distinguishing between hoaxes and credible threats. While officials suspect the sender of PM Modi’s threat may not pose a serious risk, the recurring threats against Salman Khan warrant rigorous scrutiny given the Bishnoi gang’s history.

Authorities are working diligently to trace the sources of the messages, ensuring the safety of those targeted and reinforcing public trust in security measures.
