PM Modi West Bengal Visit | In a sharp escalation of the political battle in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a blistering attack on Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, calling it “nirmam” (cruel) and deeply corrupt. Addressing a large public rally in Alipurduar, PM Modi said the people of Bengal are “crying out for change” as the state is plagued by violence, unemployment, and a crumbling education system.
With less than a year to go before the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Prime Minister’s speech marks the beginning of what is expected to be a heated electoral campaign.
PM Modi Lists Five “Crises” in Bengal Under TMC Rule
Targeting the TMC government directly, the Prime Minister listed what he called five ongoing “crises” in West Bengal: “There is a crisis of violence and anarchy, a crisis of women’s safety, growing youth unemployment, declining public trust, and a self-serving political leadership that robs the poor of their rights,” he said to thunderous applause.

Referring to the recent communal violence in Murshidabad and Malda during protests against the Waqf Act, the PM accused the state administration of giving a free hand to hooliganism in the name of appeasement.
“When ruling party members burn down homes and the police stand by like spectators, is that governance?” he asked. “Nothing gets resolved here until the courts intervene. Is this the Bengal we want?”

PM Modi also attacked the TMC over the teacher recruitment scam, which resulted in the termination of over 25,000 teachers following a court-monitored investigation.
“The future of thousands of families has been destroyed. The education of lakhs of children is at risk. This is not just corruption—this is a sin. Yet, the TMC continues to blame the courts rather than accepting its guilt,” he said.
The Prime Minister accused the state of undermining judicial authority, saying that the courts were forced to step in repeatedly due to TMC’s inaction.
Mamata Banerjee Hits Back, Dares Modi to Hold Elections Early
Reacting sharply to the PM’s remarks, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called his speech “shocking” and accused him of breaking national unity at a time when Indian MPs are on a global diplomatic outreach post-Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack.
“I did not expect the Prime Minister to speak this way. India’s message of unity is being carried by all-party delegations abroad. And yet, here he is, creating division,” Banerjee said.
In a defiant challenge, the CM said she was ready for early elections.

“Let the Prime Minister hold elections tomorrow. The people of Bengal are with me. TMC is not afraid,” she declared.
Bengal on the Boil: Political Showdown Begins
With Thursday’s rally, PM Modi has officially set the stage for the BJP’s campaign to oust the TMC from power in Bengal, a state the party has long aspired to win but has struggled to unseat Mamata Banerjee’s entrenched leadership.
The BJP is expected to escalate its campaign across the state, with a focus on corruption, law and order, and development—especially in education and employment.
As the Assembly polls inch closer, Bengal is likely to witness an intense and polarizing political battle, with both parties doubling down on their core narratives.
