Babygirl, the 2024 erotic thriller starring Nicole Kidman’s bold thriller ‘Babygirl’ is now streaming on Prime video in India. The highly acclaimed film, which was previously accessible only through premium rental, can now be viewed with a standard Prime Video membership starting this weekend.
Directed and written by Halina Reijn, Babygirl has generated a buzz for its bold storytelling, stellar performances, and exploration of age and gender dynamics. The film had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2024, where it received widespread praise. Nicole Kidman earned the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her performance as Romy, a powerful CEO who embarks on a complex relationship with her 25-year-old intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.
The film later screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and was released in theatres by A24 on December 25. Despite a modest budget of USD 20 million, Babygirl grossed an impressive USD 64.4 million worldwide. It was also named one of the National Board of Review’s Top Ten Films of 2024. Kidman received a Best Actress award from the Board, further cementing her success in 2024.
In Babygirl, Nicole Kidman’s character Romy, aged 49, finds herself in an intense romantic and emotional entanglement with the much younger Samuel. The 24-year age difference between the characters mirrors a real-life 29-year gap between Kidman and Dickinson. Director Halina Reijn revealed that the film was created to ‘question gender and age bias in relationships.’

Harris Dickinson, known for his roles in Triangle of Sadness and The Iron Claw, shared insights into their on-screen dynamic. “The intense tension in the film was enhanced by the limited interaction he had with Nicole Kidman before filming began,” he said. “He felt that their on-screen relationship became more authentic because they had to build trust and connect in a kind and open way.”
The film also stars Sophie Wilde and veteran actor Antonio Banderas in key roles, further adding depth to the ensemble cast.
Indian audiences can now experience the provocative and thought-provoking drama from the comfort of their homes, as Babygirl begins streaming on Prime Video India.
