The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) authorities have initiated the demolition of the N-Convention Centre, a prominent establishment owned by actor Nagarjuna. The sprawling 10-acre facility, located in the Madhapur area of Hyderabad, has been under scrutiny for years due to allegations of illegal construction within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area and buffer zone of the nearby Thammidikunta Lake.
According to official records from the North Tank Division’s executive engineer, the FTL area of Thammidikunta Lake spans approximately 29.24 acres. It is alleged that the N-Convention Centre encroached upon about 1.12 acre of this FTL area, along with an additional 2 acres within the lake’s buffer zone. These encroachments have raised serious concerns about the environmental impact on the lake and surrounding areas.
What Nagarjuna said
Nagarjuna took to X and wrote, “Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and Court cases. I thought it fit to issue this statement to place on record certain facts for protecting my reputation and to indicate that we have not done any actions in violation of law.

The land is a Patta land, and not even an inch of tank plan is encroached. In respect of the building constructed inside the private land, there is a stay order granted against any earlier illegal notice for demolition. Today clearly, the demolition was carried out wrongfully based on misinformation.
No notice was issued prior to carrying out the demolition this morning. As a law-abiding citizen, if the Court before which the matter is pending, had decided against me, I would have carried out the demolition myself.
I am placing this on record for the purpose of correcting any public misimpression about wrongful constructions or encroachment by us. We would be seeking appropriate relief from the Court in relation to the wrong actions carried out by the authorities.”
Why was the convention centre demolished
For years, the management of N-Convention has faced accusations of leveraging their influence to bypass regulatory actions from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other higher authorities. Despite multiple warnings and legal challenges, the convention center continued its operations, largely avoiding the consequences of its alleged encroachments.

The demolition drive commenced in the early hours of Saturday, with HYDRA officials arriving on-site, backed by a contingent of police personnel to ensure the process proceeded smoothly and without interruption. The decision to demolish the N-Convention Centre marks a significant move by the authorities to reclaim public land and uphold environmental regulations in the face of alleged misuse of power and influence.
The demolition of such a high-profile establishment has sparked public interest and debate, with many questioning the effectiveness of regulatory bodies in preventing such encroachments from occurring in the first place. The incident also highlights ongoing concerns about the protection of natural resources and the enforcement of environmental laws in rapidly developing urban areas like Hyderabad.
As the demolition progresses, the fate of the N-Convention Centre serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to environmental regulations, regardless of one’s influence or status. The authorities’ actions send a clear message that illegal encroachments, especially those that threaten vital water bodies and ecosystems, will not be tolerated.
