New Delhi: Days after the untimely death of TikTok star-turned-politician Sonali Phogat, a murder case was registered in Goa on Wednesday after her family members raised doubts on the two associates who accompanied the BJP to Goa.
Talking to the media, Phogat’s brother Watan Dhaka said, “I got a call from her (Sonali Phogat) assistant at 8 am yesterday (Tuesday). Later, the assistant said she fell ill around 2 am in the night. Why did he not call us then? Every time he spoke, he gave different statements. This is why we feel there’s something wrong.”
He also said that the last time she spoke to Phogat, the politician was feeling uneasy. “As if something had been added to her food. She had told our mother that she would go to the hospital,” Dhaka was quoted by the media.
The family members have also demanded a CBI probe and had earlier said that the police are not filing an FIR in the case. Dhaka also demanded action against the two associates who accompanied Phogat.
On Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s claim that the death is being treated seriously, Dhaka said, “If it is being treated seriously then why isn’t an FIR being filed in the case?”
Phogat’s 15-year-old daughter Yashodhara told the media, ” The case should be properly investigated and the culprits should get strict punishment. My mother deserves justice.”
Shortly before her death, Phogat had posted images and videos on Instagram. Phogat had contested the 2019 Haryana polls from Adampur as a BJP candidate but lost to Congress candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi. However, Bishnoi had resigned and joined BJP last month.
Phogat rose to fame after her TikTok videos went viral and her fan base swelled on the video-sharing app. Initially, Phogat had started her careers as a TV anchor.
