The governing body of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), led by veteran actor Mohanlal, was dissolved on Tuesday, citing moral responsibility in light of the explosive revelations from the Hema Committee report. The decision to dissolve the governing body comes after severe backlash and sexual abuse allegations against some of its members.
In a statement released by the AMMA, the association acknowledged the growing criticisms and announced that a new governing body would be selected soon. The statement emphasized the need for new leadership to renew and strengthen the association, expressing gratitude to those who have criticized and helped correct the organization.
The resignation of the governing body followed the public release of the Hema Committee report on August 19, which exposed widespread sexual harassment, casting couch practices, pay disparities, and exploitation within the Malayalam film industry.
The report has led to several actors, filmmakers, and technicians being accused of sexual misconduct, prompting calls for accountability.

Among those who resigned was actor Siddique, the General Secretary of AMMA, who stepped down after being accused of sexual misconduct by a female actor. Speaking to the media, Siddique confirmed his resignation, stating that he decided to step down due to the allegations against him.
Other prominent figures named in the report include filmmakers Ranjith and Thulasidas, and actors Jayasurya, Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edavela Babu, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The silence of major industry figures like Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Fahadh Faasil regarding the allegations and the contents of the report has also come under scrutiny.
AMMA has informed the public that a general body meeting will be held within the next two months to select a new governing body, as the association attempts to navigate the crisis and restore its reputation amidst growing demands for change within the industry.
