In a striking counter to Pakistan’s disinformation campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to Adampur Airbase in Punjab on Tuesday. A now-viral image from his visit — showing PM Modi waving to air warriors with a MiG-29 fighter jet and an intact S-400 missile defence system in the background — delivered a silent yet powerful rebuttal to Islamabad’s false claims.
Last week, Pakistan had circulated doctored satellite images alleging that missiles launched from its JF-17 fighter jets had destroyed India’s advanced S-400 system at Adampur. The propaganda push included fake videos and misleading claims intended to undermine India’s success in Operation Sindoor, its retaliatory military action following the terror attack in Pahalgam.
But the latest visuals from Adampur told a different story. Far from being damaged, the S-400 unit appeared fully operational. The jet in the backdrop, runway integrity, and PM Modi’s calm presence at the site offered clear, verifiable evidence that no Pakistani missile had struck the facility.
“PM Modi walks into Adampur airbase, the very site Pakistan falsely claimed was ‘destroyed’. Just the Prime Minister standing tall with our heroes – reality silencing propaganda,” Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar posted on X.
Modi Praises Air Warriors: “India Is Grateful”
During his early morning interaction with the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel, PM Modi praised their role in successfully neutralising Pakistani drones and missile attacks. He posted on X: “It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation.”

The Prime Minister’s visit to India’s second-largest airbase, strategically located just 100 km from the Indo-Pak border, was symbolic and deliberate. It reaffirmed New Delhi’s stance that Operation Sindoor had not only degraded Pakistan’s terror infrastructure but also exposed the failure of its retaliatory capabilities.
The S-400: India’s ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ That Foiled Pakistani Strikes
India’s S-400 Triumf air defence system, referred to as the nation’s modern-day ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, played a key role in intercepting Pakistani drones and missiles aimed at Adampur. These included loitering munitions and UAVs, many of which were successfully shot down by the layered Indian air defence shield.
When Pakistani missiles failed, its military turned to misinformation. One widely shared Pakistani claim showed a patch of dirt, falsely labelled as the destroyed S-400 site — a claim easily debunked by independent analysts and now publicly refuted by the Prime Minister’s on-ground presence.
Why Adampur Matters: Strategic and Historical Importance
The Adampur airbase has long held strategic significance. During the 1965 Indo-Pak war, it remained the only major target Pakistan failed to hit, despite several attempts. Home to MiG-29s and Su-30 MKIs, and equipped with advanced radars and missile systems, Adampur is pivotal in guarding India’s northern and western airspace — especially Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Rajasthan.

In 2022, India deployed its first S-400 missile regiment at Adampur, cementing its place as a linchpin of India’s air defence matrix.
PM Modi’s visit came just a day after he warned that India’s retaliation was merely paused, not stopped. Speaking to air warriors, he reiterated that: “India’s ‘Laxman Rekha’ against terrorism is now crystal clear. If another attack occurs, India will strike back harder, faster, and deeper.”
He had earlier declared Operation Sindoor as India’s “new normal” — a doctrine of zero tolerance to terror and direct, forceful retribution.
