The upcoming Quad Summit, featuring leaders from India, the US, Australia, and Japan, comes at a critical time amid global tensions, including the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the Israel-Hamas war. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Philadelphia and proceed to Wilmington, Delaware, where he will hold bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening India-US relations, Modi’s recent diplomatic visits to Russia and Ukraine, and the potential for establishing peace processes in these conflict zones.
This visit may also include an announcement regarding India’s participation in space collaboration with the US, under which Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to travel to the International Space Station as part of the Axiom-4 mission.
Additionally, a multi-billion dollar deal involving India’s acquisition of 31 Predator drones from the US is on the agenda, though it remains unclear if the formal announcement will occur during Modi’s visit.

The Quad Summit, scheduled after the bilateral talks, will bring together Modi, Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Key topics include China’s aggressive military stance in the Indo-Pacific region, rising tensions over the Taiwan Strait, and China’s unfair trade practices.
According to US White House spokesperson John Kirby, these issues will be central to the discussions. As the Indo-Pacific continues to be a geopolitical hotspot, addressing China’s influence and military actions is seen as a priority for the Quad leaders.
On the second day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will address a gathering of Indian community members in New York and meet with top CEOs to discuss future collaborations in fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, and semiconductors. These discussions are expected to drive innovation and strengthen India’s position in global technology markets.
Modi’s third day will feature a major address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he will speak at the “Summit of the Future” on September 23. The summit, themed “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” is expected to chart the path forward on pressing global issues, with a focus on peace, security, and sustainable development. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called the event a “once-in-a-generation” summit, where leaders will discuss how multilateral cooperation can tackle the challenges of the future. Modi’s speech is anticipated to reflect the perspectives of India, home to one-sixth of the world’s population, and its stake in fostering a peaceful and secure global future.
During his time at the UN, Modi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders, further bolstering India’s diplomatic relations on the global stage. Former US President Donald Trump has hinted at a potential meeting with Modi, describing him as “a fantastic man,” although the Indian foreign ministry has not confirmed the meeting.
Ahead of his departure, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of the Quad as a platform for like-minded nations to promote peace, progress, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. He also emphasized the significance of his bilateral meeting with President Biden, which he hopes will pave the way for new initiatives to deepen the India-US partnership.
Modi is also eager to engage with the Indian diaspora in the US, as well as prominent American business leaders. He recognizes the crucial role they play in strengthening the partnership between the world’s largest democracy and its oldest. This visit is expected to reinforce the economic and strategic ties between India and the US, while also providing a platform for collaboration in advanced technology, defense, and diplomacy. The outcomes of this visit could have long-term implications for India’s global standing and its relationships with key international players.
