Amid the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on INDIA bloc allies Congress and the CPI(M).
Mamata Banerjee labelled them as “BJP agents” in the state and declared that she would not support them. Speaking at a rally in Murshidabad, Banerjee asserted that the Congress and the CPI(M) are not INDIA in Bengal and urged voters not to cast their ballots for them, claiming that one vote for them equated to two votes for the BJP.
Although the TMC, Congress and CPI(M) are a part of the Opposition INDIA alliance, Banerjee has opted to contest the Lok Sabha elections independently in West Bengal. She criticised the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI), dismissing pre-poll surveys as fake and alleging bias in the conduct of voting, particularly regarding the deployment of central forces over state police.
The remarks by Mamata Banerjee at the Congress and CPI(M) were particularly significant in Murshidabad, a district known for a strong CPI(M)-Congress alliance. Despite this alliance’s presence, Mamata Banerjee accused them of being BJP agents. She also expressed confidence that the BJP would not secure more than 200 seats nationally.
The Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal are scheduled to be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, with three constituencies voting in the first phase, including Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri.
