Former CM and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, however, took a jibe at the state government for not inviting him in inauguration of the metro lines. He said that his government had taken the metro rail project on priority, monitored it on a regular basis. He blamed that the current MVA government has considerably slowed and stopped some project works. The state government has made the Metro car shed an issue by opposing its location at Arey and by doing so it has adversely affected the welfare of people of Mumbai. The citizens will not forgive the Uddhav Thackeray-led government.

State Congress leaders, however, claimed that their government had first given principal approval for the two lines started by the MVA government and the previous BJP government in the state just worked on it. They said that former chief ministers of the Congress party, during their chief ministership, were committed to expanding metro connectivity in the city.
Meanwhile, reports suggested that the metro rail project in Mumbai was announced and began during 2014-19 when the Devendra Fadnavis led BJP-Shiv Sena government was in power. After the 2019 assembly elections, Sena parted its ways and formed a coalition government with NCP and Congress.
